Our History
William A. Head and Carl S. “Red” Daniels
founded our company in 1954 in a one-room office in Portsmouth,
Ohio. Out of that partnership came the concept of offering
professionals personalized service along with the finest
insurance plans available in the marketplace.
In our early years we concentrated on administering group insurance plans for
professional associations. Among our clients were the Ohio State Medical Association,
the Ohio State Bar, and the American Optometric Associations, as well as the
Pennsylvania Legion Plans, the Select Physicians and Surgeons Group Insurance
Trust, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
In the mid 1970’s we began our involvement in writing lawyers’ professional
liability coverage and have since enjoyed much success. Through year end 2001,
we have been instrumental in the placement of policies representing over 350
million dollars in written premium.
Our success has led to much growth. Over the last several years we have entered
a new era, and have transformed ourselves from an organization with regional
business interests into one that is national in scope.
From an operational perspective, Daniels-Head works out of five office locations
throughout the U.S. Our southern regional center and corporate offices are located
in Austin, Texas. Our other regional centers in are in Palm Springs, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico;
Sesser, Illinois; and Portsmouth, Ohio.
Since inception we have had a reputation for being an outstanding sales organization
with customer support and service that are the envy of the industry. The thinking
and concentration of our people has helped send a clear message to our competitors
that we are a far-sighted, positively motivated, and goal-oriented organization.
At the same time, our customers feel reassured that we possess no self-imposed
limits on our caring and our ability to provide the best service available anywhere.
